OMAR ALI SAIFUDDIEN MOSQUE

This is one of the most magnificent mosque in South-East Asia and a symbol in the strong Islamic faith of the people of Brunei Darussalam. The mosque design from the most elegant materials, including marbles from Italy, granite from Shanghai, stained glass and chandeliers from England and carpets from Belgium and Saudi Arabia.

KAMPONG AYER

Often described by visitors of the last century as the Venice of the East, Kampong Ayer or Water Village, is home to some 30,000 people. Stretching for several miles along the banks of the Brunei River, Kampong Ayer is a fascinating glimpse of the traditional lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries, although today's inhabitants enjoy most modern comforts and the visitor can see satellite dishes and TV antennas adorning many roof tops.

YAYASAN SULTAN HAJI HASSANAL BOLKIAH FOUNDATION COMPLEX

The Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation Complex is a commercial and shopping complex, designed to generate revenue for a foundation dedicated to the welfare of the people. It is a personal initiative of His Majesty, and it is a testament to his abiding concern to the well being of the people of Brunei.The main walkway features excellent views of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque at one end and Kampung Ayer at the other.

THE ROYAL REGALIA BUILDING

Architecturally extraordinary, with its distinctive gold pattered dome, the Royal Regalia building was built in 1992 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty's accession to the throne. The building houses an equally extraordinary collection of priceless Royal Regalia, including jewel-encrusted crowns, a magnificent royal chariot and a replica throne. A separate exhibition documents the constitutional history of Brunei.

TASEK RECREATIONAL PARK (Taman Tasek)

Situated in the city area, only a 15 minutes walk from the Lapau, Taman Tasek with a natural waterfall and lake and abundant trees and flowers is a popular place to escape the hum drum of the city.

KIANGGEH OPEN MARKET (Tamu Kianggeh)

Known to many locals as the Amah's market, Tamu Kianggeh is situated on the banks of the River Kianggeh, opposite the Chinese Temple. Open daily from very early in the morning to late in the evening, a wide variety of local produce, flowers and handicrafts are on sale at the many stalls.

SERASA BEACH

About 10 minutes from Muara, Serasa Beach is a popular spot. As well as a recreational strip with picnic facilities, there is a purpose-built water sports complex, where jet-skiers and wind surfers can hire equipment. The Serasa Water Sports Complex hosted the water sports during the 20th SEA Games.

HASSANAL BOLKIAH STADIUM

Situated about 5 kms from the city centre, the National Stadium houses a number of modern facilities, including a Sports Medicine & Research Center with all the most up-to-date related equipment.

JERUDONG PARK PLAYGROUND

Opened in 1994 to coincide with His Majesty's 48th birthday, Jerudong Park Playground is a state-of-the-art theme park, filled with adventurous rides, simulators and video games as well as a auditorium and fountain garden. It has become Brunei's major tourist attraction.

SELIRONG ISLAND (Pulau Selirong)

A 45 minutes boat-ride from Muara lies Pulau Selirong, which is a 2,566 hectares mangrove-covered island. The 2 kms of wooden walkways offer close-up views of the mangroves and wildlife. There is also an observation tower and the island has toilet facilities and rest huts.

OUTWARD BOUND BRUNEI DARUSSALAM (OBBD)

A unique outward bound center, since it is situated in virgin tropical rain forest on the banks of the Temburong River, OBBD is managed by the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports with a logistics center at Batang Duri and an operations center a further 7 kms up river in the middle of the jungle. OBBD provides training to schools, colleges, universities, government officers, corporate groups youth and non-government organisations in programmes designed and tailored to suit these diverse groups. These programmes include courses in self-confidence, communications, moral support and trust, decision-making, problem solving and other inter-personal skills.
